Family Walk: Blackstone Canyon

Directions: Meet at the end of Valleystone Dr in San Rafael. From Highway 101 in San Rafael take the Marinwood St Vincent’s Dr exit, west on Miller Creek Rd 0.3 miles. Turn right onto Las Gallinas Ave 0.4 miles, then left onto Blackstone Dr 0.2 miles. Stay left and follow Valleystone Dr, park at end.

This secluded valley below the rugged east end of Big Rock Ridge is a great place to look for animals that are attracted to the creek. We’ll take a slow walk to the wet places in the canyon to see who’s hiding there. Total miles: 1.5. There is little elevation change. Remember to bring lunch. No pets (except service dogs) are allowed. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel. Registration is required.
